Friends of Sabeel France

Friends of Sabeel France is an ecumenical association created in June 2010. Like other associations of Friends of Sabeel   in a dozen countries, “Friends of Sabeel France” aims to develop solidarity links with the churches present in Palestine-Israel, some since the very early days of Christianity. It pursues the following objectives:
• disseminate and make known in France, and especially in the churches of France, the theological reflection and the testimony of the Christians and churches of Palestine-Israel.
• contribute to the accompaniment of the Palestinian Christian community in its nonviolent mission of justice and peace.
• develop personal links with the Sabeel network, in Jerusalem as well as in Nazareth, by visits of Palestinian Christians in France, and visits of French Christians in Palestine-Israel.
• support the projects and meet the needs of the Sabeel Center and the Palestinian churches, as an instrument of fraternal relations between the Christians of France and the Christians and churches of Palestine-Israel.
• foster theological dialogue with Muslims and Jews, particularly with regard to justice and peace.

Friends of Sabeel Ireland

Friends of Sabeel-Ireland was set up in 2003 in Dublin. Earlier in that year, Dr. Naim Ateek had come to Ireland and met people from local churches – clergy and lay – who wanted to hear of his experience and to see in what way we might be able to support the aims of Sabeel.
FOS Ireland continues to be involved in issues of Palestinian advocacy as well as sending representatives to the international conference held in Jerusalem in 2013.
We join Friends of Sabeel around the world in prayers for an end to the occupation and the coming of a just peace.

Friends of Sabeel Australia

Friends of Sabeel Australia Incorporated [FOSAI] was established in Australia in August, 2003. Its foundation was due to the inititiative of Ray Barraclough who, in the early 1990s, had worked for the Anglican Church in East Jerusalem. FOSAI saw itself as an ecumenical support group for the Sabeel Liberation Theology Center that was founded by Naim Ateek and based in Jerusalem.
As regards its Australian (and New Zealand)[1] context, FOSAI had as its aims:
A. Increasing the awareness of Australian Christians about the vision, aspirations and activities of Sabeel and of the wider circle of Palestinian Christians in their homeland.  B. Disseminating information about the life-situation of Palestinians, particularly those living in the occupied territories.  C. Distributing copies of the Sabeel journal Cornerstone to the members and supporters of FOSAI.  D. Encouraging members and supporters of FOSAI to attend international conferences that Sabeel sponsors.  E. Seeking to make pertinent contributions to Australian public discussion and policy in regard to the aspirations and experiences of the Palestinian people.

Friends of Sabeel Sweden

Friends of Sabeel in Scandinavia, gathering people from Denmark, Norway and Sweden, was founded in May 2001. The aim was and is to support Sabeel Jerusalem and its ecumenical work for a just peace and an end to the occupation. We have worked independently in Norway and Sweden by holding seminars and workshops, arranging witness visits, participating in advocacy, and attending Sabeel’s International Conferences. During the first years there also was a Sabeel group in Denmark. In 2016 we are formally going to start FOSS (Friends of Sabeel Sweden) and FOSN (Friends of Sabeel Norway). In reality this is how we have worked for the last years. And, of course, people in Denmark are welcome to join us!

Peace through justice in Palestine and Israel
Friends of Sabeel Germany is committed to justice and peace for Palestine and Israel. We support the work of Sabeel, an ecumenical movement for Palestinian liberation theology founded by Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land that strengthens faith and life. We share the mission of Sabeel to strengthen the voice of Palestinian Christians , to work with the peacemakers of all religions who stand up for the oppressed and promote a just peace in Palestine and Israel. We oppose any distortion of the Bible and theologies that lead to racism, anti-Semitism, and Islamophobia and legitimize a “conquest” of the “sin of occupation.” We disapprove of all acts of violence committed by states, individuals, or groups. We organize events and lectures that educate church audiences and the wider public about the root causes and current problems of the conflict, and non-violent campaigns that promote justice and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.

Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center

Sabeel is an ecumenical grassroots liberation theology movement among Palestinian Christians. Inspired by the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, this liberation theology seeks to deepen the faith of Palestinian Christians, to promote unity among them and lead them to act for justice and peace. MISSION: To strive towards theological liberation through instilling the Christian faith in the daily lives of those who suffer under occupation, violence, injustice, and discrimination.
VISION: Local Christians inspired by the life and teaching of Jesus Christ stand for the oppressed, work for justice, engage in peace-building.
